Hanoi rocks and the Dogs D’Amour paved the way. The Wildhearts and Terrorvision fuelled for take off and Green Day took it to a new commercial level.
This website, though, is dedicated to the underground bands of the era.
Bands who didn’t give a f**k what was ‘in’. These were bands who wrote what they lived and lived what they played. Bands who wore their ‘stage’ clothes on the high street.
These unsung heroes flew their own flags, made no apologies and gave alternative fans something to go out for. There were even pubs and clubs that would book them.
Bigger names played Nottingham's Rock City, the best rock venue of the 90's, still holding it's own today. For others, The Fulham Greyhound, Leicester's Charlotte, Shed, and chains like Firkin pubs were the scene for raw British bands. Rock bands we all loved but who, mostly, never made it out of the decade.
These bands lived the dream and all whilst, mostly, holding down 9-5 jobs
I loved these 90's underground bands. Back then my friends and I worked for the weekends. We followed bands around and they became a huge part of our era. At a gig this year I recognised a member of Barfly and told them about this site, they helped out by sending photo's . If you remember, or were a member of an underground band please get in touch.
